The Masquerade Ball

Doncaster Dartes

This Saturday saw a rather special event on the Dartes calendar. An enormous amount of work went in to making the 2020 Masquerade Ball a raving success. Congratulations to Chairperson Gail Burton for masterminding the event and making it work so well. Hopefully the first of many events in the future.

It isn't the first Ball Dartes has hosted though. For that we need to head back to September 2008 and Castlepark Stadium. A similar black tie event that also proved popular among glamour starved swim parents. It's safe to say however, that this month's version was an even glitzier affair raising over £4,000 to help keep the club running. So if you were involved in helping organise or run the social event of 2020, we thank you enormously and hope you enjoyed yourselves on the night. The Earl of Doncaster was looking its best for us, that's for sure.

In the end we welcomed guests from outside the world of swimming along with our usual Dartes family of parents and coaches. We were joined by local businesses who bought tables to wine and dine colleagues and clients. Among them was our sponsor for the night Albemarle Homes, a local property developer. We greatly appreciate their support for the evening. We brought along extended family and friends too, and everyone enjoyed a night of dinner and dancing to live music courtesy of the Steve Love Band.

The evening kicked off with a presentation about Dartes and what the evening meant to the club. Thanks to Suzy Broadhead for delivering that. It was then straight in to the raffle. A tasty 3 course dinner was swiftly served before the auctions began.

We had some great prizes for those auctions too. Luxury holidays worth £100s. Thanks to the Hughes family for donating one of them, and John and Terry Whiteley for the other generous gift to the club.

The casino tables proved popular too. Who knew we had so many high stakes players in the club.

Finally, a big thank you to the following, without whom the event would not have taken place. Bee Wood, Paula Sykes, Jo Child, Marie Maskrey, Beth Johnson, and Natalie Cade.
