Better late than never: 1x2000 Test
With the latest batch of recruits to National Squad now fully bedded in, Monday night seemed the perfect opportunity to put them through the paces. The 1x2000m test was always going to reveal the fruits of the seasons labour, and so it proved. But this time a further challenge was set. Not just to swim fast, but also skillfully and tactically.
The job of pace setting was left, as always, to Jessica Hubery who could never quite open up a gap between herself and Phoebe Weatherill. Hot on her heels throughout the first 800m, Phoebe held pace until a gap opened up for her to overtake and from that point on she was in a league of her own, Phoebe knocked off over 4 minutes from her previous best, with Jess, Lexie and Kennedy all joining the PB club, taking off huge chunks of time from their last attempt, mentions also go to Theo Kearsley and Freya Cooper giving a good account of themselves on their first attempt, a testament to the training they've done over the course of the season - remember though it’s the average that counts!
The new recruits performed well too. Interesting to see how the 2 boys Alex and James, unsure of how to attack, used each other to set a pace they can manage but was taxing their system all the same. The inexperienced girls performed well too, coming in under 30 minutes is the first benchmark but next time girls, you should have that confidence to go out a little harder and be comfortable with being uncomfortable.
