BML Round 1 - Askern

Adam Burton

Doncaster DARTES club squad kicked off their 2nd BML season with a gala at city neighbours Askern SPA. Askern have been absent from competition for 5 years or so during the Covid period and whilst their pool was refurbished. Welcome back SPA, it is great to see you back at it.

This years BML division 4 again consists of only 3 teams, Askern, Knottingley and Doncaster DARTES so a successful start in gala one was essential for clubs targeting the top spot. A strong squad was selected with representatives from B squad right through to National squad.

The team performed admirably on the day, getting a hand to the wall first in 47 out of the 49 events and running out overall winners by a comfortable margin, but that doesn’t quite paint the full picture……. A total of 9 DQ’s meant that 27 points were surrendered. Lots of work for the coaches and swimmers to do before the next meet predominantly focusing on the technicalities of the breaststroke underwater phases and relay take overs. The takeovers really shouldn’t have been an issue in this meet as there was little to no pressure or need to execute anything resembling a questionable takeover – something for all of our swimmers to learn and take forwards.

The remaining two fixture take place on consecutive weekends in September. Knottingley on 22nd and our own home fixture on the 28th. We plan to give as many of our swimmers the opportunity to swim in these meets as possible whilst still aiming to achieve our goal of promotion at the end of the year, so we’d ask that you all make yourself available for the next two rounds even if you weren’t part of the last squad.

Many thanks to all swimmers, coaches, team mangers, officials and supportes who make these meets possible.

Round 1 Final Scores.

DARTES 120
